Spread in an area of 490 sq km, Dudhwa National Park is situated the terai belt of Uttar Pradesh. It is tucked between Indo-Nepal boarder in the Lakhimpur Kheri District of the country. The Park was established in 1958 and has been announced wildlife refuge in 1977 and embraced Project Tiger in 1988. The dense forests of the park are great delight for wildlife lovers since they may encounter several fauna species. One of seven species of deer in India, five flourish at Dudhwa. Diverse animal species such as Swamp Deer, Tiger, Sambar Deer, Ratel. Jackal, One-horned Rhinoceros, Barking Deer, Leopard, Hog Deer, Jungle Cat, Spotted Deer, Swamp deer, Barasingha, Civet and many more will be the people of the park.
Avifauna
The marshlands boasts over 350 species of birds including some migratory birds which resides here during the winter season. Bird watchers can spot birds such as white and black necked storks, painted storks, Woodpeckers, Barbets, Saras Cranes, Minivans, Kingfishers, Bulbuls, Bee-eaters and a lot more. Swamp Francolin, Great Slaty Woodpecker, Bengal Florican etc are some of the migratory birds that delight the avid bird watcher.
Flora
Dudhwa National Park comprises of dense sal jungles, grasslands and swampy marshes. Floral wealth of park includes 107 herbaceous plants species, 31 grass species and 89 species of trees. The Forest department doesn’t provide jeep safaris. Tourists have to employ the mini buses or jeeps to journey into deep jungle.
